Industrial and financial activity data ready and open

[UPDATED March 2018]

Economic indicators

Our job deals with managing big quantities of data (big data). It is necessary, at least, to become familiar with the visualization of big quantities of data in order to organize and interpret the data extracted from a website. And this is not only about the extraction of data, at the moment of planning the extraction strategy, we must know which the data are, since we are going to extract them to give the user an information sense.

Many times, we find difficulties along the way, we need to reconstruct information and track document history. This may be done with different methodologies applied to measurement or due to changes of government.

And, at the moment of collecting data, this situation is not as simple as it seems. Another challenge is represented by changes in the creation of rates. That is why we need many times to create a new visualization that may allow us to show data.

LN VIZ creation to show indicators

A few years ago, there was a need to create simple, fast and updatable charts: LN VIZ was thus created. The best solution found for this was the use of a chart library in Java Script which we connect with Google Spreadsheets. So, any person without the need of a code may create a chart with a predetermined chart format, at the same time, the person may use it as a data base updatable by any journalist in any part of the world. We are now working on integrating this chart system to the newspaper CMS to get a fast access to tools and more chart options to work on the article.

I. Automobile production

Source: ACARA

II. Annual automobile registration in Argentina

Source: ACARA

Data is collected on a monthly basis from the Association of Automobile Authorized Dealers in Argentina (Asociación de Concesionarios de Automotores de la República Argentina – ACARA). The number of automobiles registered every month and the comparison with the data of the same month of the previous year are presented on the following report. We created visualization based on this report.

ANNUAL AUTOMOBILE REGISTRATION IN ARGENTINA

III. Number of public deeds executed in the Province of Buenos Aires since 2005

IV. Number of purchase and sale public deeds executed in CABA.  Association of Notaries Public

The report on public deeds is updated through the Association of Notaries Public. Data are uploaded on the Google Doc and then we create a visualization that show the public deeds executed every month and their comparison with that of the previous year.

V. Poverty and extreme poverty threshold in households in CABA (City of Buenos Aires)

Source: General Board of Statistics and Census – GCBA (Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires – Government of the City of Buenos Aires)

Data are visualized through a Tableau which provides actions and interactive filters that simplify the answers to our questions. With respect to this specific example of poverty and extreme poverty threshold in households in CABA, extreme poverty threshold: households which monthly income is not enough to cover the basic food basket (CBA – extreme poverty threshold); (non-extreme) poverty threshold: those households which monthly income is not enough to cover the total basic food basket (CBT – poverty threshold), but it allows, at least, to buy the basic food basket.

VI. Job market. Main indicators – EPH

Data visualization presents the following information:

Activity rate: estimated as the percentage between the economically active population and the reference total population. Employment rate: estimated as the percentage between the working population and the reference total population. Unemployment rate: estimated as the percentage between the unemployed population and the economically active population. Job demanding working people rate: estimated as the percentage between the job demanding working population and the economically active population.

VII. Dollar rate tableau

Dollar rate data taken from the Central Bank are uploaded every day. We then update the Tableau, updating data on real time at 11, 13 and 15 hours as from its closing.
