Tenía bastantes expectativas de conocerlo porque varias personas de mi entorno habían quedado deslumbradas por su historia de vida, su capacidad de transformación y de reinventarse, pero más que nada por su manera de transmitir todos los aprendizajes que había tenido a lo largo de ese tumultoso camino.
Lo cierto es que un día Héctor Toty Flores vino al diario y compartimos una reunión. A simple vista parecía un tipo sencillo, casi tímido, pero en cuanto empezó a hablar su carisma, alegría y entusiasmo lo convirtieron en un personaje único. Ahí nos empezó a contar de todo su historial de fracasos: porque si hay una gran virtud que tiene Toty, es su capacidad de autocrítica y de reírse de sí mismo.
En sus épocas de líder piquetero del Movimiento de Trabajadores Desocupados (MTD) de La Matanza, no le tembló el pulso cuando dio el portazo y rechazó los planes sociales, por querer defender la dignidad del trabajo. Después de intentar diversos emprendimientos productivos al mando de la Cooperativa La Juanita, y de fundirse hasta el hartazgo, superó sus prejuicios y se alió con el diseñador Martín Churba, en la campaña Pongamos al trabajo de moda que los llevó a exportar guardapolvos a Japón.
Justamente con Churba fue con quien compartió escenario en el TEDxBuenos Aires, y durante la charla juntos fueron reconstruyendo las peripecias que los llevaron a trabajar juntos y crecer como personas. El video es un poco largo, pero les aseguro que vale la pena.
La charla gira en torno al miedo a lo diferente y destaca como a partir de animarse a conocer a ese otro tan distinto, pudieron armar un proyecto con objetivos comunes. Toty cuenta que “cuando lo conocía a Martín me impresionó porque era un hombre una enorme capacidad de decisión. Nosotros teníamos un montón de prejucios, como que los empresarios no trabajan, que se pasan todos los días en Punta del Este. Pero Martín me llamó un domingo a las 6 de la tarde porque estaba haciendo un video y nos empezó a cambiar nuestra visión de este mundo nuevo que se nos abría”.
Por su parte, Martín Churba señala que “darle la mano fue un momento conmovedor para mí, porque Toty tuvo un accidente trabajando y le faltan algunas falanges. Y cuando yo le di la mano sentí que estaba abrazando su falta. Y ese encuentro a mí me marco porque cuando continuamos conversando tuve la oportunidad de seguir abrazando su falta”.
Hoy en día, y gracias al esfuerzo y la dedicación de muchos, la Cooperativa La Juanita tiene en funcionamiento una panadería, un jardín comunitario, una editorial, y diversos programas sociales, entre ellos, un Programa de Microcréditos, una Feria Comunitaria, el Centro de Construcción de Ciudadanía, enseñanza en apoyo escolar, ingles, computación, guitarra, manualidades, folklore y otros.
Las vueltas de la vida le dieron a Toty la posibilidad de involucrarse en política y no la desaprovechó. Actualmente es diputado nacional bonaerense por la Coalición Cívica pero sin perder de vista sus prioridades. Hace casi dos años fui a visitarlo al Congreso para hacerle una nota, y me recibió de jeans, con náuticos y camisa a cuadros de mangas cortas. “El peligro mayor es que te coopten y uno debe saber que es cooptable. Por eso, sigo con los mismos hábitos y me rodeo de la misma gente”, me explicó en ese entonces, aunque también me confesó que los únicos lujos que había adquirido con su nueva función fueron no viajar más en colectivo por seguridad y comprarse pantalones en Once.
Toty sostiene que su objetivo en el gobierno es claro: poder dar lo mejor de sí durante sus cuatro años de gestión y después volver al barrio. “Quiero terminar mi mandato y poder caminar las calles de La Juanita en chancletas”, dice con tranquilidad e inmensa sabiduría.
Los invito a que lean su libro Cuando con otros somos nosotros, que habla también de este desafío cotidiando que tenemos todos los argentinos de aceptar la diferencia y aprender de la diversidad…

qué cierta es la frase: la unión hace la fuerza! Un gran ejemplo el de Toty. Ojalá podamos imitarlo y darnos cuenta de que para lograr un verdadero cambio social tenemos que unirnos. Solos no se puede.

lo escuche hace dos años, me emociono, realmente toda su vida es un ejemplo y su lucha siempre fue por su DIGNIDAD y la de su grupo..no quiso planes,no quiso dinero, no quiso casa regalos, su objetivo

No puedo ser imparcial con Toty, porque hemos hecho mucho camino juntos, tanto que uno de los proyectos, el de micro crédito los gestionamos con Claudia una compañera de la cooperativa, el taller de costura que llego a exportar a Italia con calidad de exportacion (no continuo el proceso por que Toty decidio dedicar los 4 años siguientes a la patria grande y dejo a la espera la patria chica el barrio La Juanita) digo esto porque la nota es muy buena pero apenas muestra una pequeña parte de la propuesta de cambio profundo y con demanda de participación de todos. Le mando un abrazo y seguramente el Camino en algun momento nos proponga profundizar en encuentro para con los otros ser nosotros

Me colma de alegria, esta nota que hicieron a “Toty” 1º porque viene de una persona que vino del interior y empezo en una villa,y tubo que sobreponerse a la estigmatizacion,discriminacion,desempleo,etc.
2ºesa crisis lo llevo a nuevos desafios, en busqueda encontro otras oportunidades.
3º Nadie pierde todos ganan, al sumar mancomunadamente esfuerzos, ideas,y se cumple el que da recibe mucho mas.Y quizas sin saberlo Martin Churba, este haciendo justicia a nuestro antepasados que fueron exterminados,usados,bastardeados,humillados,calumniados por intereses mezquinos de algunos oligarcas que desbarataron nuestras riquezas,y no se conformaron con adueñarse de las tierras, sino que hasta hoy se sigue,discriminando al que viene del interior a buscar un poco de trabajo, “los cabecitas negras” y otros epitetos.Donde estan? los “civilizados, los doctorados aun en leyes, que no conocen la verguenza de seguir robando con guantes blancos.

First of all I would like to say fantastic blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
