Reseña sobre mi carrera en el handball
Muchas veces me siguen vinculando al handball, me paran en la calle y me preguntan: “Martiniano, ¿cuando volvés al handball, maestro?
Creo que uno tiene estapas en la vida para realizar ciertas actividades. Fue una experiencia maravillosa haber tenido la oportunidad de jugar en diferentes equipos nacionales y extranjeros pero, sin duda, la mayor satisfacción fue vestir durante un largo tiempo la camiseta argentina.
Quiero quiero contarles brevemente como se fue dando mi carrera en este deporte tan lindo que dejó marcada en mi piel muchas cosas hermosas que jamás podré borrar de mi memoria.
Empecé de grande. Había terminado el colegio, estaba pachorro y me dije: “tengo que hacer un deporte”. Y en eso, le llevo un pedido de homeopatía de la farmacia de mi querida y amada vieja (Elsa Volpe) a uno de los jugadores de la selección, nos pusimos a hablar y me dijo que fuera a jugar al club alemán. Y me puse a jugar.
Obviamente, era un desastre, me decían “caballo loco” porque corría y tiraba para cualquier lado. Pero en un momento me di cuenta de que así no iba a llegar a ningún lado y me dije: “Quiero jugar en la selección, porque mi objetivo es jugar en Europa”.
Quería ir a Europa para conocer la cocina de allá. Entonces fui a hablar con el técnico de la selección, me presenté y le pedí que al menos me dejara ver los entrenamientos y juntar las pelotas. Me dejó y a la semana era amigo de todo el equipo.
Me maté entrenando y en el ‘96 cambió el técnico. Vino uno cubano y un día me dijo: “Tú, ven pa’qui, grandote, tu eres mi socio, yo quiero que estés conmigo…”. Yo tenía 24 años.
Venía el mundial y ahí estaba yo, ¡convocado! ¡Una cosa de locos!
En ese campeonato mundial que se realizó en Japón ( 1996) me puse las pilas, de pronto me convertí en el goleador del equipo y a mi regreso me llamaron para jugar en el Trieste de Italia. Me fui con casa, comida, auto y tres mil dólares de sueldo. Y estuve una temporada.
A mi regreso, jugué unos años mas en el seleccionado, torneos internacionales en algunos equipos nacionales (Luján, Lomas, Asociación Alemana de Quilmes) y me fui retirando.
El compromiso con mi trabajo de cocinero fue creciendo y los tiempos eran cada vez más exigentes, pasaba poco tiempo con la familia . Hasta que decidí terminar definitivamente. Bueno por ahora creo que no vuelvo… pero uno nunca sabe…
