Capricho noventoso: Live
La primera vez que escuché la canción Selling The Drama, directamente asocié a Live con REM. Sentía que el tema estaba sónicamente vinculado con The One I Love, y que el dramático timbre de Ed Kowalczyk estaba hecho a imagen y semejanza que el de Michael Stipe. Fue el primer impacto, aunque, como suele ocurrir, cuando uno se adentra en la obra de un artista puede vislumbrar su propia personalidad. Live ofrece momentos tremendamente climáticos y otros de una furia arrolladora a bordo de sus guitarras. Llegó a la masividad y cruzó océanos gracias a su segundo disco, Throwing Copper. Por suerte, pudieron desencasillarse de quienes quisieron ubicarlos en la góndola de la música post grunge. Y no pararon de sonar con varios de los temas de ese disco, como All Over You, el potentísimo I Alone, o tal vez su máximo hit, Lightning Crashes, inspirado en una amiga que murió atropellada.
Desarrolló una carrera con picos de alta creatividad. Sin embargo, la venta fue mermando y quedó como una banda más de culto que de las masas. El capricho noventoso de este viernes es doble. Por un lado, les dejo Selling The Drama, el hitazo al cual me referí al comienzo del post; por otro, como yapa, I Alone, que a mi juicio tiene la potencia característica de esta banda.

Sabía que iba a llegar el post de viernes con LIVE.
Tremenda banda, Throwing Copper me partió la cabeza y al día de hoy lo sigo escuchando.
recomiendo retroceder hasta Mental Jewlery, su disco anterior. Casi todo acústico. Los primeros 3 temas son tan buenos como “Selling The Drama”

¿Esta es la sección “Lo pedís, lo tenés”?, jeje.
Digamos que me ví reflejado en el comentario, a primera oída parecían otros, como tomando prestados timbres, recursos, estilos… pero luego compré el CD y, la cosa cambió. En el conjunto de la obra se notaba una idea personal para encarar la propuesta.

Muy buen disco throwing cooper, me paso tambien que en el momento de selling the drama no me llamo tanto la atencion, aunque luego con i alone o lightning crashes los empece a escuchar mas,y años mas tarde me compre ese cd q tiene otros temas muy buenos tambien. tuve la suerte de verlos en vivo en el 2000 en un festival en nueva orleans, en esa epoca todavia tenian cierta popularidad y estuvo muy bueno su show…y si de caprichos noventosos de aca este finde vi a peligrosos gorriones en niceto excelente show, que bueno cantar canciones como si fuera ayer que sacaron sus discos, cuantas variantes melodicas y de letras, podría ser un capricho local no?? saludos
