Bill Frisell le pone sonido a Disfarmer

¿Es necesario encasillar a Bill Frisell?… ¿O podemos decir que es su música aborda los géneros, los encanta, los hipnotiza y los despoja?… Uno no puede menos que sacarse el sombrero ante uno de los cultores, en su caso a través de la guitarra, de una máxima invalorable en la música: menos es más… Casi tres décadas, lleva Frisell, editando discos que exploran, que toman riesgos, que educan… En su más reciente obra, Frisell se tomó el trabajo de ponerle música a modo de homenaje a Mike Disfarmer, fotógrafo especialista en retratos, que capturó con su cámara los momentos de miles de personas en la Norteamérica rural de finales de los años 30 y principios de los 40… Frisell no sólo tomó las fotografías (impactantes per se), sino que llegó hasta Heber Springs, Arkansas (de donde Disfarmer era oriundo) y se internó en un viaje a un lado y al otro del Río Mississippi para respirar la Norteamérica rural que plasmó Disfarmer y de paso encontrarse con una personalidad fascinante: la de un hombre huraño, introvertido, que dormía en su propio estudio de fotografía donde fue hallado muerto, solo y cubierto de ratas y rodeado de comida enlatada… frisell-disfarmer Frisell quedó maravillado con la historia y la obra de este hombre, y se propuso traducir los sonidos de la mente de Disfarmer cuando observaba por la lente de su cámara… Juntó a un cuarteto ad hoc: el contrabajista Viktor Krauss (Tom Waits, Bèla Fleck, entre otros), Greg Leisz (especialista en steel guitar y mandolina ha tocado con infinidad de artistas: de Joni Mitchell a Beck; de Smashing Pumpkins a Brian Wilson) y su habitual compañera de viaje, la violinista Jenny Scheinman… Disfarmer, tal como se llama el disco, contiene 70 minutos de música diseminados en 26 piezas instrumentales, en las que uno puede captar el dolor, el hastío y hasta cierto misterio de la vida tan asombrosa como enigmática de un hombre cuya obra hoy se exhibe en los grandes centros de arte, pero que en su momento apenas significaba una costumbre rutinaria… Entre las piezas y viñetas propias, Frisell cuela significativas versiones: That’s Alright Mama, de Arthur Big Boy Crudup (blusero nacido en Mississippi y formado en Chicago), Lovesick Blues, de Cliff Friend e Irving Mills, y I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still In Love With You), de Hank Williams…
